Frequently Asked Questions

In genuine emergency situations, the embassy can process an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) within 1-2 business days, and in some cases, on the same day. You must provide all required documentation and evidence of the emergency nature of your travel. For non-emergency situations, standard processing times apply.

Yes, the embassy can help if you've lost all your identification documents. You should first report the loss to the local police and obtain a police report. Then contact the embassy with this report. The embassy will work to verify your identity through available channels, which may include checking records or contacting authorities in Zimbabwe. This process may take longer than standard document replacements, so it's important to contact the embassy as soon as possible.

If you're a victim of a crime in the UK, you should first report it to the local police by calling 999 (emergency) or 101 (non-emergency). Obtain a police report or crime reference number. Then contact the embassy for consular assistance, especially if you've lost important documents or need other support. The embassy can provide information on local resources, help with replacing lost documents, and offer guidance on navigating UK systems. In serious cases, the embassy can also help communicate with your family in Zimbabwe if needed.

The embassy does not typically provide direct financial assistance to Zimbabwean citizens in emergency situations. However, in exceptional cases of serious distress where no other options are available, limited assistance might be considered on a case-by-case basis. The embassy can help you contact family members who might be able to send money, provide information about wire transfer services, or refer you to local organizations that may offer assistance. Any financial help provided by the embassy would generally be in the form of a loan that must be repaid.

The cost of repatriating remains to Zimbabwe can be substantial, typically ranging from £3,000 to £5,000 or more, depending on various factors such as the funeral director's fees, casket type, airfreight charges, and documentation costs. These expenses are typically the responsibility of the family. It's advisable to check if the deceased had travel insurance or life insurance that might cover repatriation costs. The embassy can provide information on funeral directors experienced in international repatriation and help facilitate the process, but cannot cover these expenses.
