Zimbabwe Embassy in the United States 2026

The Zimbabwe Embassy in Washington DC provides a full range of consular and diplomatic services to Zimbabwean citizens living anywhere in the United States, as well as to US citizens and residents who wish to travel to or do business in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe passport applications and renewals are processed at both the Washington DC Embassy and the New York Permanent Mission. All applicants must appear in person for biometric capture (fingerprints and photograph) as part of the new e-passport system.

Required Documents for Passport Application

1. Completed passport application form (download here)
2. Current or expired Zimbabwe passport
3. Zimbabwe national ID or birth certificate (first-time applicants)
4. Two recent passport-sized photos (white background, 35mm x 45mm)
5. Proof of legal residence in the United States (visa, green card, or I-94)
6. Application fee (see table above)

Note: For renewals, you must surrender your old passport. Applications are forwarded to Harare for printing. Track your application by contacting the embassy directly on +1 202 332 7100.

Passport Application Tips

• Apply early: Standard processing takes 6-8 weeks. Apply well before your passport expires to avoid travel disruptions.
• Bring exact documents: Incomplete applications are rejected. Check the forms page for the full document checklist.
• Payment: Fees are payable in USD only. Cash and money orders are accepted at the embassy. Personal checks are generally not accepted.
• In-person biometrics: You must attend in person for the new e-passport, as fingerprints and a digital photograph are captured at the office.
• Postal applications: Some services may allow postal applications for renewals. Contact the embassy to confirm eligibility before mailing documents.

For Zimbabweans Outside the DC/NY Area

If you live far from Washington DC or New York, contact the embassy to ask about postal passport applications or to find out about any upcoming consular outreach visits to your area. The embassy occasionally organises consular clinics in cities with large Zimbabwean populations such as Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and Chicago.

Public Holidays

The embassy is closed on both Zimbabwean and US federal holidays. Key closures include Zimbabwe Independence Day (18 April), Heroes Day (11 August), US Independence Day (4 July), Thanksgiving, and Christmas/New Year. Plan your visits accordingly.
